This is the final week in the semester which means this is the final Weekly Summary I have to submit. This course was a great learning experience and I think it taught me skills that will be very useful in the future!
18 year old Tiffany had just graduated high school. In just a couple of months she would be leaving to go to college in England. All of her friends were going to different schools in the United States but because she had dual citizenship she decided to leave the country for university. Before she said her goodbyes at the end of the summer Tiffany and her best friend Bianca decided to take a trip to New York City.
To start planning the trip, they made a Pinterest board of everything they’d need and things they would do during their time in the city.
When her sister found out her was going to New York City she decided to make her a guide of all the places to visit because New York City was where she spent her summers while in college.
Knowing that her little sister was planning the entire trip by herself she also made her a tutorial on how to book a hotel near the empire state building so she would do it the right way and not mess up one of the most important parts of planning a trip!
At 5:15 on a Monday morning, the girls boarded a Greyhound bus and started their adventure to the Big Apple. A four hour bus ride gets pretty boring, there’s only so many times you can scroll through your Instagram or play Candy Crush. Two hours into the ride Tiffany was so bored she decided to just stare at the billboards when one in particular caught her eye.
Being that she was a very proud feminist, this billboard made her so happy that afterword she decided to go to sleep because no other billboard or roadside sign could make her smile like that one did.
The girls hopped off the bus at Grand Central Station and the first thing on their mind was to get food. Not wanting to waste any time they decided to just go into a convenience store and grab some snacks. In this store was an array of cereal which is what Bianca decided she wanted to get as her snack. She browsed the rows and rows of cereal but one stood out to her because she’s never seen anything like it. It was a parody of a music video and she thought it was so funny so of course she had to snap a picture of it!
This was the point at which the trip really started for them. Tiff and Bianca went shopping, sightseeing and even got a cool time lapse of the Empire State Building!
They had so much fun that at the end of the last day Tiffany decided to make a podcast to post online telling everyone about everything her trip!
Make a collage of the photos you want to use. There are many different websites that make collages. You can simply Google ‘collage maker’ and chose from one of the search results.
Place the images in the collage in the order that they relate to your story.
Save the collage to your desktop once it’s done.
In a new blog post, write the narrative that goes along with the collage and insert the collage into the post.
Find the picture of the pop star that you want to use. This can be done using Google images.
Once you find the picture you need to save it to your desktop so it can be opened in Pixlr, which is the website that will be used to complete this assignment.
After opening the image in Pixlr you will then choose the wand tool from the toolbar on the left. Using the want tool, select all the space you want to be transparent. For this assignment I used the tool to select the entire background so once I finished the process I was left with an empty background. After selecting all of the space that needs to be transparent you want to go to the edit menu at the top of the page a select ‘Invert Selection’. The next step is to copy the image to your computer’s clipboard and that can be done by either going to the edit menu and choosing ‘Copy’ or pressing the keys CTRL and C on your keyboard.
From there you have to go to the File menu and select ‘New Image’. Give the new photo a different name and check both of the option boxes on the new image box. Once that’s done the new image will open in a new window and all the areas with grey and white checkers are the transparent areas. To save it to use in a different image you save it as a PNG file to keep the transparency of the background.
Next, find the picture you’re going to use for the background. Save it to your desktop and open it in Pixlr. After you have done that open the ‘Layers’ menu and select’New Image As Layer. Then you select the photo of the pop star that you’re using as the subject of your post and once it’s added you can re size it and place it where you’d like it. The final step is to marge the two layers together and save the finished photo to your desktop.
